We regret to inform students enrolled in the following courses (see table below) that, as much as UPFI defended and justified for these classes to remain open, your classes were recommended to be DISSOLVED by higher offices.

Those who are enrolled in specific subjects, you can transfer to any of the other options available here, as follows. Please be guided accordingly.

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO RE-ENLIST IN OTHER SUBJECTS:

-- See the CRS listing of available courses for this sem.
Even if there are no more slots in a particular course/section
you want, we could enlist you there due to this unforeseen
    and certainly unplanned dilemma.

If you want to fix your sked because of these changes, please see the UPFI Academic Coordinator anytime this week. We will entertain re-enlistments/add mats/ change mats until June 30 only.

If you want to lodge complaints or ask for your status on how this will affect you and other acad things or if you want to ask for endorsement letters if needed, please go to the CMC Office of the College Secretary who could help you with your individual dilemmas.

Blog EntryMay 30, '09 1:45 AM
for everyone

The UP Film Institute is happy to announce that the new dean of the UP College of Mass Communication is one of our own -- Dr. Roland Tolentino.

Congratulations, Sir Roland!

And the winner is...Up to you!

You have until June 15 to cast your votes. Six video producers - one from each region of the world - will win an all-expense-paid trip in September to New York, Washington and Hollywood. Their future is in your hands.

Go to the Democracy Video Challenge YouTube site at www.youtube.com/democracychallenge, click the voting tab and view the 18 finalists. Give a thumbs up to the videos you think best capture the meaning of democracy. Winning videos will be posted on YouTube on or about June 16.

To vote, you must go to the contest site (http://www.youtube.com/user/DemocracyChallenge), and click on either the Vote tab or the vote button. After viewing the video, click on either the thumbs up or the thumbs down. Winners (one from each region) will be selected by the highest number of yes votes (thumbs up). The same IP address can be used to vote for more than one video, but YouTube only allows for 1 vote per user per video per day.

In other words the same IP can vote for each of the 16 videos, but to place additional votes for only ONE of the videos using the same IP address you must wait 24 hours.

Support the Filipino film "Long Live the Fearless Man." Just type in aissathesheriff on the search field at the voting site then click on the thumbnail of our film to view it.

In order to have a more enlightening enlistment process, please follow this.

Regardless of what appears in your CRS listing of courses,
this is the one and only course listing we will follow
beginning First Semester 2009-10 onwards.

Please print it out for reference.

As you can see, there are course codes that overlap from the old curriculum and the new curriculum.

Example, the OLD Film 112 is Language and Grammar of Film.
The NEW Film 112 is Advanced Photography.

Since we are all going to follow the COURSE CODE/NUMBERINGS AND COURSE NAMES OF THE NEW CURRICULUM, we will disregard all old course code numberings and course names.

Hence, from now on, when we say Film 112, that will only pertain to Advanced Photography, and nothing else. When we say Film 131, that will only pertain to Narrative Cinema, and nothing else. Cinematography will be Film 153 from now on, not Film 131. And Film 132 is now Documentary Film, not Production Design, and so on.

Thus, if you are following the old curriculum and it says there that you need Film 121 Scriptwriting I, you now have to enlist in Film 151 because that is the new course number of Scriptwriting I. At the end of the sem, you get a substitution form and fill that out in order to credit Film 153 to your Film 121 in your old curriculum checklist. Gets?

I hope that is clearer this time. Email us again for any other questions.

Please refer to the previous post here for the rest of the Enlistment Guidelines, especially the substitutions for old curriculum students. To reiterate, new curriculum students do not have a problem with this substitution thing; just be guided accordingly with the course numbers as stated above.

And next time, WHEN WE CALL FOR A STUDENT ASSEMBLY WHERE WE DISCUSS THESE THINGS LIKE WE DID MONTHS AGO, PLEASE ATTEND SO YOU WON'T GET LOST, LIKE RIGHT NOW. K?

Thank you.

Please print this out if you want a guideline for CRS enrollment this school year.

When in doubt, don't ask each other or non-UPFI instructors/staff.

Ask the UPFI Academic Coordinator for more clarity and guidance.
[email upfi.academic@gmail.com]

NOTE: These guidelines are for BA Film / BA Film and
            Audiovisual Communication majors only.

MA Media Studies (major in film) majors' concerns are
mentioned below [pertaining to back subjects only].

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPFI  NEW  STUDENTS
(SN2008 onwards; shiftees/transferees
already following the new curriculum)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just follow the guidelines in your checklist.

The only thing to be careful of is NOT TO ENROLL IN THE
FOLLOWING COURSES
which are not part of your curriculum
anymore (as required courses or as
electives):

-- Film 113 Film Production I
-- Film 114 Film Production II

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPFI Old / Existing / Returning Students
(SN2007 or earlier; shiftees/transferees
following the old curriculum)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.  The following courses are SUBSTITUTIONS
      of your REQUIRED COURSES:

By the end of the sem, you need to get a CMC SUBSTITUTION FORM from the CMC Admin office in order to credit the new-numbered course to the old-numbered course counterpart in your old curriculum.

Fill out one form per subject
substituted.

2.  The following courses are SUBSTITUTIONS
      of your ELECTIVE courses:

3.  The following course is a SUBSTITUTION of
your ELECTIVE course, but this time YOU NEED
to have a CMC SUBSTITUTION FORM for it:

-- OLD: Film 115 Advanced Photography
    SUB: Film 112 Advanced Photography

4.  The following courses are available to you as ELECTIVES,
      but take note of the
comments:

-- Film 103 History of World Cinema

COMMENT: This is a split from the old Film 100 course content
                   so it might
be redundant for you if you already had
                   a good Film 100
experience.

-- Film 159 Film Production Management

COMMENT: Those who already took Film 183 Film Seminar
(Production Management topic under Ms. Amor
                     Olaguer, Mr. Raymond
Lee or Ms. Boots Anson-Roa)
are not advised to take this course
for redundancy.

-- Film 101 Introduction to Film Production

COMMENT: Those who already took Film 113 might find this redundant,
as it will contain a more general overview of film production,
which might have been discussed in Film 113 already.

-- Film 177 Women in Cinema

COMMENT: Those who already took Film 183 Film Seminar
(Women in Cinema / Women in Film topic under
                     Ms. Marra Lanot or

About DMT and the Conference:

Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process which furthers emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual (ADTA, 1999). It is part of the creative arts therapy program which emerged as a distinct profession in the 1940s in the US.

Dance Movement Therapy is used in enhancing guidance and health promotion programsin schools as well as an effective treatment for people with developmental, medical social, physical and psychological impairments (autism, trauma from sexual abuse, cancer survivors, Parkinsons, Alzheimers, ADHD, depression, etc.) in the US, UK,  Australia, Japan among other countries.

ADTA approved Continuing Education workshops are approved by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) in the US.

The conference aims to provide us an understanding of dance/movement therapy as a profession and to enrich the participants' professional lives.  Experiential structures will be provided to demonstrate the expressive body-mind, promote self-awareness and adaptability on kinesthetic level.  It will also introduce the multi-roles of the therapist and demonstrate ethical & professional practice; and to answer to questions that relate to clinical issues and the populations the participants might be working with.
